Weekend Box Office: Strong Openings For "Forbidden Kingdom," "Sarah Marshall"

Two of the weekend's three major new films did well; Full box office report!

Though it did not set any box office records, "The Forbidden Kingdom" opened well enough for a spot on top of the box office.

The film posted a gross of $20.9 million, which was enough to beat the $17.3 million from new entry "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." Though the latter film did not open as well as producer Judd Apatow's "Knocked Up," "Superbad" or "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," it topped most tracking estimates and, based on very good reviews, could have solid longevity at the box office.

Things were not so good for new Al Pacino-starrer "88 Minutes," which bombed with a $6.8 million take for fourth place. "Prom Night," last week's winner, fell to third on ticket sales of $9.1 million, a 56% drop. The drop was even steeper for "Street Kings," which fell 68% to seventh place with $4 million.
