The Tina Fey-Amy Poehler comedy tops the "Harold and Kumar" sequel at the box office

"Baby Mama" won the battle of well-reviewed comedies, topping sequel "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" at the weekend box office.

"Mama," which stars Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, opened to $17.4 million. "Harold and Kumar" scored $14.9 million with a roughly identical theatre count.

"The Forbidden Kingdom," last week's winner, fell to third with $11.2 million on a forty eight percent decline. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" was in fourth with $11 million; it lost thirty eight percent, which shows solid retention but not as much positive word-of-mouth as Judd Apatow's other recent comedy hits.

"Deception," the only other major new release, bombed with $2.3 million.
