American Idol: Latest Elimination
Story reported by Brian Cantor of Headline Planet

Only three remain after Wednesday's results show

In a predictable elimination, Jason Castro was forced to depart the "American Idol" competition this week.

Though Castro delivered several memorable performances this season—the most notable being his semifinal take on "Hallelujah"—many fans and critics viewed his upside as limited and did not expect him to cruise through to the end.

The negative judge reactions to "I Shot the Sheriff" and "Mr. Tambourine Man," his performances this week, sealed his fate. David Cook and David Archuleta are far and away the most popular contestants, so the only other endangered contestant was Syesha Mercado. Though she did join Jason in the bottom three, the strong reaction to her "A Change is Gonna Come" helped keep her alive for another week. She also performed "Proud Mary."

The three remaining contestants hit the stage with three each songs next week for the final show before the grand finale.
