American Idol 7 Finale: Who Was Crowned The Latest Winner?

Who won this year's installment of "American Idol"

Despite commanding reviews and an indication from the judges that he won the night, David Archuleta did not top most fans' predictions list—virtually all entertainment websites anticipated a David Cook victory Wednesday night.

It turns out that the fans and critics were right, as rocker David Cook walked away with this year's "American Idol" crown.

Cook won by twelve million votes, which, based on the 97.5 million vote stat, indicates a victory of 54.75 million to 42.75 million, or 56% to 44%. There is thus no questioning his status as this year's most popular contestant.

Cook, who personally chose to perform "Dream Big" on Tuesday's show, sang Idol Songwriting Contest winner "Time of My Life" on the finale.

The finale also featured appearances by Bryan Adams, ZZ Top, George Michael, Donna Summer and Carrie Underwood, among other celebrities and all twelve of this year's finalists.
