"Idol" Set to Produce Hit Singles
Story reported by Brian Cantor of Headline Planet

Several songs from this past week's "Idol" finale will debut on the Hot 100

"American Idol" winner David Cook should get off to a better start than previous winner Jordin Sparks, as his single "The Time of My Life" has spent quite some time atop the iTunes singles chart.

iTunes sales are a driving force behind a song's position on the Billboard Hot 100, so Cook should expect a very strong debut for his "winner's single." Jordin Sparks' "This is My Now" did not chart as highly on iTunes and peaked at number fifteen on the Hot 100.

Every song Cook performed on Tuesday and Wednesday has performed very well on iTunes, with fellow Songwriting Contest song "Dream Big" and covers "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "The World I Know" all having spent the week as residents of the top ten.

David Archuleta, the runner-up, should also enter the Hot 100, although his entry point will not even be close to that of Cook. Archuleta's "In This Moment," "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and "Imagine" are presently all within the top thirty and had been higher on the chart earlier in the week.

But the "American Idol" force is not limited to its contestants. Coldplay's "Viva la Vida," which is being advertised in a joint campaign with iTunes that debuted during the finale, is currently situated at number two on the download charts and should move back up towards the top ten after falling from fifteen to forty on last week's Hot 100.
