The new "Indiana Jones" film gets off to a strong start

It was not the biggest domestic opening of all time, but the $126 million gross for the four-day Memorial Day weekend gave "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" an easy box office victory.

The Memorial Day take fell just short of the gross for last year's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," which stood at $139.8 for the long weekend.

The film earned just over $25 million on Thursday, so its domestic take stands at $151.1 million. Its total worldwide take is presently at $311.1 million.

"The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" upped its total to $96.7 million with a $28.6 million Memorial Day gross. "Iron Man" slid back to third with $25.7 million in receipts.

No other major releases hit theatres this weekend.
