Usher's New Album to Top Charts But Not Last Album

"Here I Stand" will not touch the sales mark set by "Confessions"

If the projections set by the Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart hold up, Usher's "Here I Stand" will sell in the neighborhood of 450,000-500,000 copies this week.

While that total will be enough for the top spot on the Billboard 200 and possibly be enough to top the year-to-date best 463,000 for Mariah Carey's "E=MC^2," it is a far cry from the artist's last album. 2004's "Confessions," which cemented Usher's status as one of the top acts in all of music, achieved sales figures of nearly 1.1 million in its first week.

As of the close of business Thursday, 267,000 copies of "Here I Stand" had been purchased. Mariah Carey's album had reached the 295,000 threshold by that same time.

Some data from Billboard Magazine.
