Action flick "Wanted" puts up impressive numbers

Few went into the weekend doubting that the impeccably-reviewed animated film "Wall-E" would take the box office crown. But the race was far closer than the majority of critics would have guessed.

"Wall-E" topped fellow newcomer "Wanted" by an estimated $11.4 million, pulling in $62.5 million for the weekend. But the $51.1 million for "Wanted" actually gave the action film the per-theatre victory; it averaged $16,100 per screen, as compared with $15,700 for the Pixar film.

"Get Smart," last week's winner, fell back to third with $20 million. "Kung Fu Panda" and "The Incredible Hulk" completed the top five with $11.7 million and $9.2 million, respectively.

Weekend number two was not a brightener for "The Love Guru." Last week's big box office disappointment took a massive sixty percent nosedive this week, coming in at number six on a mere $5.4 million.

Weekend Top Ten:
1) Wall-E - $62.5 million
2) Wanted - $51.1 million
3) Get Smart - $20 million ($77.3 million)
4) Kung Fu Panda - $11.7 million ($179.3 million)
5) The Incredible Hulk - $9.2 million ($115.5 million)
6) The Love Guru - $5.4 million ($25.3 million)
7) Indiana Jones - $5 million ($299.9 million)
8) The Happening - $3.9 million ($59.1 million)
9) Sex and the City - $3.8 million ($140.1 million)
10) You Don't Mess with the Zohan - $3.2 million ($91.2 million)
