“Hart of Dixie” Bombs in Ratings, “Dancing with the Stars” Crashes

Debuting in the ultra-competitive Monday 9PM slot is a very tall order, and The CW’s new series “Hart of Dixie” was unfortunately not up to the task.

The Rachel Bilson-led series opened to just a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating with 1.8 million viewers, earning the label of the network’s worst scripted debut of the fall.

Granted, it received no help from lead-in “Gossip Girl,” which returned to an abysmal 0.8 and 1.4 million viewers.

Over on ABC, “Dancing with the Stars” fell from last week’s already-disappointing premiere numbers, putting weight behind one of two notions–either the show has finally peaked or, more likely, this season’s cast just isn’t exciting anyone.

Its demo came in at a soft 3.3, meaning it was dominated by all four members of CBS’ comedy block. Viewership, as always, speaks more favorably–the show averaged 16.0 million over its two-hour telecast.

“Castle” followed with a 2.9 and 11.9 million.
