Though the show delivered a weak rating overall, segments featuring “Big Johnny” were successful, demonstrating some of the best viewership growth WWE has seen in months.

The 10PM quarter hour featuring the extended “firing” angle between Laurinaitis and Big Show sparked a gain of 1.033 million viewers, according to a report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Though the 10PM quarter is seen as one of the three most important segments on the show, gains in recent weeks have paled in comparison to the spike for that polarizing segment.

And though Big Show’s tremendous acting performance was the highlight of that segment, it is not as if Big Show has represented a solo ratings draw in the past few years.

The overrun with John Cena, meanwhile, gained 990,000 viewers from its preceding segment to rank as the most-watched portion of the show. Again, that is not historically uncommon for overruns, but it is definitely an improvement over recent performances, even some of the final segments featuring The Rock and John Cena during the WrestleMania build.

The only other segment that performed in the ballpark of the two Laurinaitis segments was the opener with Triple H and Paul Heyman.

There is no reason to believe that Laurinaitis’ success on RAW will translate into a big buyrate for Over the Limit, but it seems clear, at least this week, that fans are engaged in his ongoing television angles.

UFC naturally moved towards a rematch between Jung and Garcia, and at that point, “Zombie” got back to his winning ways. He defeated Garcia with an awe-inspiring twister submission and then followed it up with a near-instantaneous knockout of contender Mark Hominick.

At UFC on Fuel 3, Jung put his streak on the line against highly-touted Dustin Poirer. In a brilliantly-reviewed fight, he extended that streak to three. He won in the fourth round with a D’Arce Choke.

PITTSBURGH – Sparks flew at the beginning of Raw SuperShow between Paul Heyman and WWE COO Triple H, after Heyman hand-delivered Brock Lesnar’s lawsuit and threatened The Game with a lawsuit of his own. By the end of the night, things exploded when John Cena read a letter from the WWE Board of Directors revealing Raw and SmackDown GM John Laurinaitis will be terminated if he loses to Cena at WWE Over the Limit!

Paul Heyman delivered Brock Lesnar’s lawsuit to Triple H
Raw SuperShow began with WWE COO Triple H addressing Brock Lesnar. “Your arrogance and stupidity offend me,” The Game said then admitted he was embarrassed that he bought into the hype surrounding Lesnar. Giving props to John Cena, The Game then recalled how Cena did not give up and fought to victory against Lesnar at Extreme Rules.

Next, a tense standoff ensued when Paul Heyman, accompanied by a lawyer, hand-delivered Triple H a lawsuit from Lesnar. According to Heyman, Lensar is owed millions after his contract was breached. “Consider yourself served,” Heyman said after calling Triple H a “corporate sycophant.”

As Heyman and Triple H squared off, Heyman criticized The Game’s business acumen. When emotions reached a boiling point, the COO grabbed hold of Heyman by the face. “You tell Brock Lesnar, he’s going to get everything he deserves,” Triple H said. But before things got even more physical, The Game relented and released his grip. As Triple H left ringside, Heyman threatened another lawsuit – assault and battery – and vowed to see the COO in court.

Less than a week before WWE Champion CM Punk will defend his title against Daniel Bryan at WWE Over the Limit, the champion tangled with his foe in tag action. And it was The Straight Edge Superstar who captured victory for his team over Cody Rhodes with a GTS … all the while making sure Bryan kept close watch on his fast and furious offense against Rhodes.

With her WWE Over the Limit opponent Divas Champion Layla watching from the entrance ramp, The Glamazon dispatched of Alica Fox with a hard-hitting Glam Slam. After the victory, when Phoenix looked to dish out more punishment to Fox, Layla came charging in the ring, sending Phoenix from the ring. Who will prevail this Sunday when the two collide for the butterfly-emblazoned title at WWE Over the Limit?

Kane def. Big Show; John Laurinaitis fired Big Show!
Right in the middle of a battle between two of WWE’s behemoths, John Laurinaitis ordered Big Show to apologize to him. The distraction opened the door for a chokeslam victory for Kane over The World’s Largest Athlete.

After the match, the GM demanded an apology for Big Show making fun of his voice or he would be fired. With the ominous warning, Show took an emotional trip down the memory lane of his career and asked the GM to let him keep doing what he loves. When the GM was adamant that Show make a clear apology, Show obliged.

Next, the GM demanded Show get on his knees and beg to keep his job. But the visibly shaken and emotional World’s Largest Athlete couldn’t bring himself do it and begged not to be made get on his knees. Saying he’d do what is right for business, Laurinaitis said he reconsider Show’s fate.

But as the GM walked away from the ring and appeared ready to fire the veteran Superstar, Show finally gave in, dropped to his knees and apologized for making fun of the GM’s voice. When he asked the GM if he was happy, he got the news that stunned the WWE Universe. “No I’m not. As General Manager of Raw and SmackDown, I wish you the best in your future endeavors. And Show, you’re fired,” leaving The World’s Largest Athlete weeping on his knees.

After the shocking firing, an emotional Show said his final goodbyes to the WWE Universe.

In a prelude to the tag title war to come at WWE Over the Limit, the WWE Tag Team Champions battled their foes in a six-man tag match. With his high-powered offense, Kofi Kingston blasted Miz with Trouble in Paradise, then Brodus Clay claimed victory for his team by decimating Miz with a monstrous splash. Watching the action from a skybox were A.W. and his All World Promotions clients Primo, Epico, Rosa, as well as potential client Mason Ryan.

Chris Jericho def. Randy Orton by Disqualification
As Chris Jericho and Randy Orton fought tooth-and-nail, the action spilled outside the ring, where World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus was seated at the announce table. During the fray, Jericho threw Orton into the champion, sending him crashing to the arena floor. When the fight resumed in the ring and Orton blasted Jericho with a DDT, he was poised for a final blow with an RKO. But before The Viper could strike, The Celtic Warrior pulled Jericho form the ring, ending the bout in a disqualification. Furious with the outcome, Orton lured Sheamus in the ring, where the two were ready to mix it up before having to be separated by WWE officials. Who will prevail when Jericho, Orton, Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio battle in a Fatal 4-Way Match for the World Title at WWE Over the Limit?

WWE Board revealed Laurinaitis will be terminated if he loses to Cena at WWE Over the Limit
When John Laurinaitis called John Cena and his WWE Universe supporters “losers,” Cena emerged to give the GM an earful. As he analyzed Laurinaitis’ achievements in his backstabbing rise to GM, Cena concluded the GM is nothing but a loser himself.

After riling the WWE Universe up about the potential beating coming to the GM at Over the Limit, the GM’s Executive Administrator Eve came to the ring with a letter in her hand.

But before the GM could read the letter, Cena ripped it from his hands to reveal some shocking stipulations directly from the WWE Board of Directors:

“Your match with Mr. Cena will be one-on-one. There will be no special guest referee. No one is allowed at ringside. The only way to win is by pinfall or submission. Any Superstar who interferes in the match will be immediately terminated … Should you, Mr. Laurinaitis, lose this match to John Cena, then you will be officially terminated.”

With the stunning news, the WWE Universe exploded in approval. Then, when Cena questioned what major announcement the GM was reported to be making that would change the future of WWE, the GM slapped Cena and walked out of the ring and up the ramp.

How will Cena respond when he goes one-on-one with Laurinaitis this Sunday?

After two seasons of anchoring Tuesdays, “Glee” will return to its season one roots of pairing with a music competition series. Beginning this fall, it will move to Thursdays at 9PM, where it will lead out of the hourlong “The X Factor” results shows.

At midseason, that lead-in will be replaced by the “American Idol” results show.

Assuming “The X Factor” does not completely tank in year two, and reason suggests that casting Britney Spears as a judge will at least attract viewers for the early episodes, “Glee” should definitely receive a welcome lead-in in its new timeslot. On the other hand, it will also go head-to-head with adults 18-49 mainstay “Grey’s Anatomy” (although for much of this past season, Tuesday night competitor “NCIS” was doing equally well, if not better, in the demo).

The “Glee” move opens up Tuesdays for a two-hour sitcom block. Even though it did not work out well this year, and in fact seemed to slow the momentum of “New Girl,” which at one point was considered a breakout hit, FOX is sticking with that Tuesday lineup in the hope that any decline in nightly ratings will be more than offset by the stronger Thursday night setup.

“Touch,” meanwhile, relocates to Friday nights, where it will serve as a lead-in to “Fringe.”

Embedded in FOX’s fall schedule are some new shows, including “The Mob Doctor,” “Ben & Kate” and “The Mindy Project.” Pickups “The Following” and “The Goodwin Games” will join at midseason.

That means this week’s episode is not the finale; it is, however, a special two-hour installment centered on Nationals. And as is par for the course when “Glee” airs a competition episode, it will attempt to derive humor from its “celebrity judging panel.”

One of those celebrity judges will be Lindsay Lohan, who is featured prominently in FOX’s press photos for the episode. Those photos, along with other spoiler looks–including amusing shots of the characters dressing up as other ones (click the thumbnails to read the captions for an explanation)–are featured below.

With plenty of television time to fill this week, expect plenty of footage of Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez embarking on their homecomings. But, for now, you will have to settle for some photos of the journeys, provided to the media by FOX.

World Tag Team Championship:
The World Tag Championship match started with Daniels and Magnus squaring off in the ring. Magnus worked to keep things grounded but control was still passed between these two. After, for the most part dominating Daniels, Magnus tagged in Joe who unleashed a series of offenses to break down Daniels to the point Kazarian felt it necessary to rescue him by pulling him out of the ring, at which point Joe went to work to make sure Kazarian would pay for it. Joe brought in Magnus to face off with Kazarian to continue their domination, though Kazarian and Daniels were able to turn things in their favor due to their backhanded tactics. Daniels and Kazarian were able to maintain their dominance for some time but Magnus was able to get the champs back into the game and get Joe in for the tag who unleashed another brutal offense on Kazarian and Daniels. The back and forth continued as did the increasing intensity of the match but finally after a double team move Daniels managed to get the pin on Magnus and become the new World Tag Team Champions.
Knockouts Championship:
There was obviously a lot of animosity between these two opponents and Gail Kim kicked off the match by getting straight to the point and let her know she means business, but Tessmacher was able to retaliate and show she wasn’t going down easy and was able to get in a near pin fall. Gail Kim seemed to able to maintain dominance for some time with Tessmacher able to have short defensive spurts but not enough to turn things in her favor. Gail Kim even managed to get in a few jabs at Tessmacher regarding her “assets”. Tessmacher did start to get an edge up taking things to the top rope and giving Gail Kim an elbow that lead to a near pin fall. Tessmacher was able to retain control of the match with her even able to implement Gail Kim’s own move on her, but Gail Kim was able to retain the Knockouts championship by using the ropes for extra leverage to get the three count.

Television Championship:
This match started out fairly uneven from the start as Robbie E and Robbie T were both aiming to take out Devon. Devon managed to maintain focus and was able to get rid of Robbie T to make things one on one, where he basically manhandled Robbie E. Finally Robbie T stopped Devon and pulled him out of the ring. After Robbie T took out Devon Robbie E started on Devon and every time Devon fought back Robbie T would stop then Robbie E would step in and try for the pin. Finally Devon was able to temporarily stop their offense but Robbie T managed to almost take out Devon and get a near pin fall that was actually stopped by Robbie E, which led to an argument between Robbie E and Robbie T. This distracted the two enough to allow Devon to get the pin on Robbie T. After the match Robbie T, still obviously upset with Robbie E stared him down but ultimately led to a joking noogie.
Mr. Anderson vs. Jeff Hardy
Both men seemed to have a mutual respect for each other as they squared off in the ring. Neither seemed to want to make a mistake as the two seemed to be sizing each other off from the start locking up twice before things really started moving. After some back and forth things made their way outside of the ring where Hardy was able to wear down Anderson some before bringing things back into the squared circle. Hardy was able to get Anderson worn down enough to get a near pin fall as did Anderson who was able to pull out an offense to allow for a couple near pin falls himself. For the most part the first part of the match was kept to the ground game with hits and submission moves and a general wearing down of the opponent’s body. Anderson spent some time working on Hardy’s arm. Seemingly out of nowhere Hardy was able give Anderson what looked like a mic check, which was able to slow Anderson down some. Anderson, in return gave Hardy a twist of fate. With both men trying the others finisher, neither was able to wear down their opponent enough to get the pin fall. Finally, after blocking a hit by Jeff Hardy, Anderson was able to get the three count to pick up the victory over Hardy. Though there was some controversy over whether or not Hardy lifted his shoulders up before the 3 count finished. Following the match Hardy and Anderson showed signs of mutual respect to each other.
Crimson Open Challenge
Crimson came out and put out another open challenge which it seemed as though nobody was going to answer but at the last minute Eric Young followed by ODB came out to answer the call and enter the open challenge. Young immediately locked up with the referee but managed to actually get into the actual match and give a great showing with a great offensive blitz on Crimson. Crimson was able to turn it around get started on Eric Young. After ODB tried to take out ODB young gets fired up and strips down to his American flag underwear to tear apart Crimson. However, after Young went to check on his wife, ODB, Crimson was able to take out Young and get the pin to continue his undefeated streak.
Bully Ray vs. Austin Aries:
The two men face off in the ring with Ray talking smack on Aries and Aries taking his insults with ease. Bully Ray seemed to try to avoid the match getting started which prompted the crowd to call him something other than Bully Ray.. that need not be repeated. . . Finally Aries was able to get things moving but Ray was able to get his retaliation in and spit in his face. The intensity of this match was way up as there seemed to be a lot of hatred between this two competitors, Aries even bit Ray’s calf at one point. Aries took quite a fall from the top rope after Ray kicked him off. Due to this, Aries was writhing in pain for some time and had giant welts on his back. Aries’ resilience was amazing as no matter what Bully threw at him he would always get back up. Bully seemed to display frustration at the fact that Aries always got back up even after Aries seemed to be finished. Finally Bully wanted to pull out the stops and he went for his chain, Joseph Parks saw this and came to object which distracted Ray enough to allow Aries to capitalize and wear on Ray. Aries was able to lift Bully into the air for a brain buster which seemed to be a for sure thing but Ray managed to kick out. After it seemed all hope was gone, Aries put Ray into the Last Chancery to force Ray to submit and give Aries the amazing win after what was a very physical match.
AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle
Styles went after Angle to try to match wrestling holds with AJ Styles, which forced Styles out of the ring. Kurt started to taunt AJ pointing for him to shoot on his leg but AJ came back to the ring with a slightly different strategy. The match went back and forth with explosive spurts you would expect to see in a match between Kurt Angle and AJ Styles. AJ was able to stop Kurt’s momentum and take over dominance of the match resulting in a number of near pin falls. Kurt ended up on the arena floor, Styles followed and nearly ended up on his head but was able to get out of it with grace. This did not help AJ as Kurt regained dominance over AJ with little defense coming from Styles. AJ Was able to find an opening and put Angle on the defensive allowing him to wear down Angle but not enough to get the pin after implementing his finishing Styles Clash. The two went back and forth and both seemed to kick out of everything that was being thrown at them by their opponent. Styles nearly lost it after interference form Kazarian and Daniels but ended up needing to tap out in the end with the ankle lock. When the match ended Kazarian and Daniels went to beat down on Styles but was ultimately stopped by Kurt Angle who helped out Styles in the end showing a new side of the Gold Medalist than what he has been displaying as of late.
World Heavyweight Championship:
Bobby started things out, with the key to the match being to wear down the opponent. RVD was able to wear down on Roode enough to attempt to bring the ladder into play but was stopped by Roode before he was able to get the ladder into the ring. Roode also made an attempt to bring the ladder into play but was stopped by RVD. The ladder was finally brought into the ring and was used as a weapon by Roode to wear down RVD, but before he could RVD turned it around on Roode and used it against him. Use of the ladder went back and forth between RVD and Roode with both continuing two wear down on each other. RVD brought into play a chair allowing him to further wear down on the champion and give RVD a chance to bring in another ladder and make an attempt for the belt. However, Roode thwarted RVD’s attempt just in time and following this went to work on RVD. The match continued to go back and forth and managed to get more violent as it progressed. In a final push for Roode to get the title RVD was torn up and may have injured his leg, but in the end Roode was able to make it to the top and get the title to retain.

People who make the same claim about cinema should pay attention to “The Avengers,” which set a box office record for its second weekend in release.

After crushing the opening weekend record with more than $200 million in receipts, it returned with a whopping $103.2 million, the best second weekend total in history.

It has accumulated more than $370 million in domestic receipts and is on pace to quickly unseat “The Hunger Games” as the top-grossing film of the year at some point in the next week.

That total easily overshadowed the opening mark for sole newcomer “Dark Shadows,” which opened to a lackluster $28.8 million. That total is beneath most estimates, which, at about $35 million, were already disappointing in comparison to the film’s big budget.

“Think Like a Man” ($6.3 million), “The Hunger Games” ($4.4 million) and “The Lucky One” ($4.1 million) completed the top five.

Hoping to get the jump on publicity for its new lineup, NBC is again kickstarting upfront week with a preview look at its new series. It has released promotional content for its entire slate of new shows in development, some of which is featured below.

A number of new series join veterans like “The Office,” “Law & Order: SVU” and “Parks & Recreation” on the fall lineup, but two with ample buzz are JJ Abrams’ new drama series “Revolution” and “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy’s latest comedy “The New Normal.”

A trailer and clips for “Revolution” and clips from “The New Normal” follow. And, yes, “Breaking Bad” fans, that is Giancarlo “Gus Fring” Esposito in the trailer for “Revolution.”

One of them will not be coming back, and based on gossip from previous years, it might be a surprise.

“CSI: Miami” is, in fact, the lone wolf headed into cancellation. CBS confirmed its veteran procedural will not be back next season. “CSI: NY,” however, will stay for at least another season.

Others joining “CSI: Miami” in cancellation are freshmen “Rob,” “NYC 22″ and “Unforgettable.” “NYC 22″ never had a chance with its ratings, but the other two were legitimate bubble series ahead of the announcement.

“A Gifted Man” had already been cancelled.

“The Voice” will remain in its Monday anchor slot from 8-10PM, where it spent much of the spring at the top of the ratings heap. With “Smash” on the bench until midseason, NBC’s most popular series will be used to launch new drama “Revolution” at 10PM.

Night two of “The Voice” will be a one-hour broadcast at 8PM on Tuesday, serving as a lead-in to new comedies “Go On” and “The New Normal.” “Parenthood” will air at 10PM.

Even though it never took off as a comedy hour this year, NBC is not giving up on Wednesdays at 8PM. It will launch “Animal Practice” and “Guys with Kids” ahead of “Law & Order: SVU” and “Chicago Fire.”

Thursday will reserve 8PM for the final thirteen episodes of “30 Rock,” with “Up All Night” relocating to 8:30PM. “The Office” predictably stays put at 9PM, while “Parks & Recreation” is unchanged at 9:30PM.

“Rock Center with Brian Williams” survived its abysmal freshman ratings and earned a second season. It will air at 10PM out of “Parks.”

Fans of the cult hit “Community” were thrilled by its renewal, but they will unfortunately have to settle for Friday as their night of pleasure. NBC will air the acclaimed comedy at 8:30PM out of “Whitney,” which opens the night. “Grimm” airs at 9PM and “Dateline” at 10.

Saturdays are reserved for encore programming, while football owns Sunday nights in the fall. At midseason, Sunday will belong to “Dateline” at 7PM, “Fashion Star” at 8PM, “Celebrity Apprentice” at 9PM and “Do No Harm” at 10PM.

Shows like “Happy Endings,” “Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23,” “Body of Proof” and “Last Man Standing” will all be back next year, as the alphabet network decided that some shaky ratings waves were not enough to justify abandoning ship.

“Scandal” and “Private Practice” also made the cut in a dual-victory for Shonda Rhimes. Her flagship “Grey’s Anatomy” had, obviously, already been picked up for another season.

Not making the cut this year was “GCB,” which never exploded as a replacement series for “Desperate Housewives.” Fellow newcomer “Missing,” which delivered abysmal ratings in the adults 18-49 column, also received the ax.

Throughout the year, ABC had already made its plans to cancel shows like “Pan Am,” “Work It,” “The River,” “Man Up” and “Charlie’s Angels” quite clear.

Nope.

The CW officially ordered a full third season of the female-fronted drama series, Friday, putting it in the same boat as its nightly companion “Supernatural,” which had already been renewed (along with “90210″ and “The Vampire Diaries”).

Freshman “Hart of Dixie” managed to make the cut as well, and veteran “Gossip Girl” was booked for an abridged final season of eleven episodes.

Not so successful were newcomers “The Secret Circle” and “Ringer,” both of which were cancelled. “Ringer” had been delivering some downright atrocious ratings late in its run, while “The Secret Circle” simply was not holding enough of its “The Vampire Diaries” lead-in.

The move would have shocked insiders; though “Harry’s Law” is routinely the network’s most-watched scripted shows, it is an abysmal performer–and one of the ratings-starved network’s worst–in the key young adults demographic.

That shock was not to be, however. NBC officially canceled the series Friday, meaning its second season, the result of a lucky renewal in its own right, will be its last.
